Rieta (リィタ) is a major antagonist in The Gray Garden. She is a loyal underling of Ivlis and lives in the Flame Underworld.
Physical Description[]
Rieta has light orange hair with messy bangs and a long side ponytail tied with a large ruby red ribbon; her ponytail ends in a ringlet. She also has red eyes, fair skin, large crimson claws, a necklace with a small orange sun with no center, and pointed ears.
She wears a ruby red bralette with peach linings, burgundy-colored detached sleeves with frilled endings, and a small red bow at the top. She also wears maroon harem pants adorning the ends with a small red bow and a large red long split skirt with two luminous orange suns separate from their spikes, while the spikes are connected into a ring around the sphere of the sun. Atop the large wrap is a huge ruby red ribbon knotted into a bow. She wears black flats as well.
A black sun is tattooed on the left side of her torso.
The lamp Rieta was trapped into by Reficul is ruby red and has an orange sun on it.
Personality[]
Rieta appears to have a very cheerful attitude and is usually smiling vibrantly in most situations. It has also been shown time and time again she is fiercely loyal to Ivlis and does everything to ensure his orders are executed. She is very competent and good at gauging the stakes in battle. For instance, she advised retreat was necessary when Etihw appeared during a battle in The Gray Garden.
She is very powerful, shown to be able to remove Ater and Arbus without trouble and taking down Alela Grora just as easily, proceeding to even say it would "need a god" to take her down; furthermore, the player is unable to defeat Rieta in the first battle in the game by default.
As for her likes and dislikes, the bonus room states Rieta likes Lord Ivlis, hates dust, and has a hobby of helping Ivlis.
Background[]
Rieta has appeared in the The Sun's Curse as a silhouette, implying she hails from the Land of Sun and has been acquainted with Ivlis long before the Flame Underworld existed. Ever since Ivlis' falling, she has been a devoted subordinate of his.
Near the end of The Gray Garden, Rieta gets trapped in a genie lamp by Reficul. Her current whereabouts are unknown. When asked where Rieta currently is, Deep-Sea Prisoner responded, "I think she'll come back at some point. This is a sort of trial for Ivlis, losing the last person - and only person - he could rely on." [1]

The Gray Garden Cast[]
Ivlis[]
Ivlis is Rieta's boss. Rieta has been with Ivlis since when he was still in the Land of Sun. [1] She is fiercely loyal to him and displays determination towards making sure everything is in order for him, ensuring his safety above all else. In The Gray Garden for instance, she steps between Ivlis and Reficul and boldly states that she will not allow anyone to lay a finger on him.
Rieta also deeply cares about Ivlis' wellbeing. In The Gray Garden she advised him that they should retreat during battle, and later encourages him to cheer up when he is feeling upset. In the Truth mini-comic, Rieta is shown comforting Ivlis when he is thinking about Siralos. Additionally, one illustration in which Rieta is seen crying behind a smiling Ivlis, titled "ただ、あなたの笑顔が見たかった" ("I just wanted to see your smile") alludes to Rieta's desire to see Ivlis happy.
Deep-Sea Prisoner commented that Ivlis and Rieta's relationship is one that "cannot be easily explained with words." [2] They do not share a romantic relationship, and she is more akin to a daughter. [3]
When asked where Rieta currently is, Deep-Sea Prisoner responded, "I think she'll come back at some point. This is a sort of trial for Ivlis, losing the last person - and only person - he could rely on." [1] Ivlis remembers Rieta; more will be revealed in Seaside Dispatches (Series) regarding this. [4]
Emalf[]
Emalf is Rieta's fellow comrade. Rieta has saved Emalf once from Ater and Arbus when they pursued in taking him in as a prisoner, sending the twin demons out of the Flame Underworld. Emalf appears to be afraid of upsetting Rieta, as seen when she assumes he's done his work and he lies to her (as Poemi makes clear in her thoughts, accusing Emalf of being a liar.) In one case, Rieta refers to him as an idiot.
Poemi[]
Poemi is Rieta's fellow comrade. When Poemi asked Rieta in The Gray Garden if she could "play" with Yosafire, Froze, Rawberry, and Macarona, Rieta told her it was not the time, but Poemi persisted and negotiated she would throw the girls into the prison and "play" with them later. Rieta agreed to the proposition. On one occasion Rieta also referred to Poemi as an "idiot," indicating she does not think all too highly about Poemi.
Reficul[]
Reficul trapped Rieta inside a genie lamp when Rieta attempted to protect Ivlis from being punished by Reficul.
Abilities[]
Natural Abilities[]
- Nigh-Absolute Immortality - Like most non-human characters in the Deep-Sea Universe, Rieta cannot die from natural causes such as aging or disease. [5]
- Flame Magic - She is able to use flame magic. [6]

Trivia[]
- The name "Rieta" is of Greek origin and means "pearl." [7]
- Rieta is based on the supernatural creatures known as jinn (often anglicized as "genie") from early Arabia.
- In The Gray Garden, Reficul traps Rieta inside of a lamp when she begins retreating to the Flame Underworld. This is possibly a reference to how jinn are commonly depicted living in lamps and magic bottles.
- She is one of the only characters either than Poemi in The Gray Garden to have colored skin.
