Heh... Well. I'm a whole separate case from the Head Angel.

— Alela Grora, The Gray Garden

Alela Grora (アレラ•グロラ) is a supporting character in The Gray Garden. She is an angel of the Gray Garden, subordinate of Etihw and Kcalb, and one of the survivors from The Great War.

Physical Description[]

thumb

Grora is a relatively short angel with long gray hair tied in low twintails, an ahoge, dark gray eyes, though the left one – having been gouged out – is now covered by an eyepatch, and a pair of feathered wings. She wears a clip on the right side of her head, a gray cloak over a collared white dress, black stockings, and knee-high gray boots. She has gray buttons on her clip, dress, boots, and watering can she carries in her character portrait.

During the Great War, Grora's hair was much longer, reaching around knee-length. She wore her angelic halo through her ahoge and a white hair clip with eight black diamonds on it. Her dress was a light-gray and decorated with dark gray diamonds. Her shoes were thigh-high boots with dark gray soles. She also wore a light-gray coat somewhat resembling a cape as well as white gloves and lacked her eyepatch.

Personality[]

Grora is a laid back individual with a sly smile on her face. She has a leisurely disposition and accepts situations readily, even using it to her own advantage. She is also clumsy and not good at completing work in a precise manner. [1] Grora is prone to teasing (picking on Wodahs and Ater, in particular). She holds a bitter grudge toward the latter, and the subject of her lost eye can break her smooth composure fairly easily. She will not accept any eye other than her once-own.

When asked about Grora's favorite food, Deep-Sea Prisoner stated she does not care much about food but likes apples. [2] An illustration also depicts Grora eating a strange concoction for breakfast. She has a poor sense of taste as she tasted her own suspicious looking dish and deemed it fine. [3] Everything Grora cooks "is terrible." [3]

Background[]

Grora is a loyal follower of Etihw and served the god The Great War. During that time, Ater - one of Kcalb's subordinates - took Grora's eye, resulting in the angel harboring bitter feelings for said demon, enduring far after the end of the war until the present day. Once The Great War was over, Grora was one of its few survivors.

In the present day, Grora works at Blancblack Castle as a subordinate of both Etihw and Kcalb.

The Gray Garden Cast[]

Etihw[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Etihw is Grora's god and boss, having fought under their command during The Great War. Grora holds Etihw in high regards. During the invasion of the Gray World by Flame World denizens, Grora is told by Froze the enemy managed to immobilize Etihw and prevent the god from responding to the impending forces. Hearing this, Grora swears and worries about Etihw, hoping they will be alright. Furthermore, Deep-Sea Prisoner has stated they are "probably close." [4]

Kcalb[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Kcalb is Grora's devil and superior. Though Grora seems to tick him off at times, she holds him in high regards nonetheless; formally addressing Kcalb as "Sir Devil" and follows his orders just as well as she does with Etihw's.

Wodahs[]

Wodahs is Grora's colleague. Despite contrasting personalities, they work rather well together. Grora often refers to Wodahs as "Head Angel." A one-sided rivalry exists on Grora's part; she teases Wodahs by confessing her love, but is "always joking." [5] Grora also shows great distaste for the many similarities between their appearances, worried people might mistake them as siblings. In the bonus room video "Eyepatch Siblings", she attempted to convince Wodahs to ditch his eyepatch but to no avail. Wodahs questioned why she would not remove hers, to which Alela protested, saying she would accept no eye except her own. When Wodahs comments about her grudge against Ater, Grora questions why he will not remove his own eyepatch. He explains his wound is not one that can heal, and that it serves as a good reminder to both Etihw and Kcalb. He also comments how he enjoys seeing his brother's remorseful face whenever he sees Wodahs' eye. Grora comments how creepy his smile is when he says this. The two also share a striking similarity when they are injured, both spurting out large quantities of blood from pushing themselves.

G2

Grora's faint one-sided feelings for Wodahs.

After Wodahs was returned to the Gray Garden thanks to Reficul, Grora was the first to find him in his injured state as he ended up landing on top of her through a portal. Grora brought him back to the castle to get him treated. Despite the camaraderie, Wodahs appears to find Grora a bit troublesome. An illustration shows him pinning her to a table in anger after she destroyed his flowerbeds.

In an illustration, Yosafire asked Grora if she "actually likes Wodahs," to which Grora responded by spewing a cup of alcohol onto her own face. [6] As of the 2017/10/21 Sunahama relationship charts update, Grora is shown to have faint feelings towards Wodahs. These feelings don't appear to be reciprocated. It is still somewhat uncertain what type of feelings are alluded to in this chart, as it was labeled "Various." When asked how Deep-Sea Prisoner felt about Wodahs and Alela Grora together, she responded, "Of course I like it." [7] Wodahs is a good chef and would cook for Grora if she asked him to. [8] Conversely, Grora's cooking is past the point of toxicity, yet Wodahs eats it all so she will not be sad; he collapsed afterwards. [3]

Ater[]

Grora has a strong aversion to Ater. During the war, Ater gouged out Grora's eye and seems to have lost it since, provoking Grora's wrath, which hasn't waned many years after. Grora near-constantly looks for both Ater and her missing eye, considering the demon never sticks around for long and runs at the mere sight of Grora.

After being wounded by Rieta and found by Yosafire and her friends, Froze explains how they were saved by Ater and Arbus. Hearing this, Grora is visibly shocked, disregarding Froze's pleads of her staying silent due to the amount of blood she is coughing up; Grora keeps pressing on for information regarding Ater. She holds venom in her words when telling the girls of Ater's past doing.

Grora chasing Ater at the end of The Gray Garden

During their reunion in the game, Grora immediately disregards everything around her and focuses solely on Ater. She proclaims with exuberance her wishes of taking Ater's eye, but the demon flees to Blancblack Castle, to which Grora continues her pursuit.

At the end of The Gray Garden, Grora is seen chasing Ater in a circle around the fountain in Blancblack Castle, with Arbus and Wodahs looking on in silence.

Arbus[]

Unlike her relationship with Ater, Grora does not seem to bear animosity toward Arbus, but openly speaks her opinion of how she sees Arbus merely as a spontaneous idiot.

Yosafire[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Yosafire is Grora's friend. Grora blatantly disapproves of Yosafire comparing her to Wodahs and grouping them as siblings. During the garden's invasion, Yosafire expresses distress when she sees Grora injured. They were shown drinking together in an illustration.

Froze[]

Froze highly respects Grora, formally addressing her as "Ms. Grora." When Grora saves Froze and her friends from a hoard of flaming bats, Froze is the only one she asks to return with her to the castle. Additionally, when Yosafire, Rawberry, and Macarona offer their assistance during urgent times and asks to come along with Froze, Grora expressed her concern over Froze and before giving them her permission.

When the four girls arrive at the Gray World's graveyard and follow a blood trail, Froze is the first to call out to Grora the moment she sees the older angel's wounded form, proclaiming her disbelief of someone managing to do her in. Not long after, Grora explains how she figured it odd for the girls to take so long in their scouting mission, and decided to take the black warp slate with her and run with it to ensure their safety.

"Seriously, though, that’s way too big a change..." [9]

When they return to Blancblack Castle, Froze is appalled to find Grora once again in a near-death state and, though she pleads for her and Wodahs not to speak out of worry for their injuries, Grora weakly tells her to escape somewhere safe, not wanting her to end up like them.

Grora has expressed her amazement at the stark differences between Froze and Froze's ancestor Sherbet, Grora's former comrade during The Great War.

Macarona[]

Macarona holds respect for Grora and calls her "Ms. Grora." Grora acknowledges Macarona's strength, and is aware of her constant anxiousness. She has been seen encouraging the young angel regarding her prowess.
