— Mikotsuhime, Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea

Mikotsuhime (海骨姫) also known as Princess Mikotsu, is a major antagonist in Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. She was the ruler and creator of the Sea of Death and sister of Uomihime.

Physical Description[]

thumb

Mikotsuhime's appearance was drastically different compared to her sister's, being dead-like and menacing. Mikotsu had raceless white skin and long cobalt-gray hair, bangs styled in a hime cut, and tied into twintails. She also had red eyes; her left eye was bandaged due to injury - an injury she suffered over the course of her war against the Blue Sea Kingdom. A prominent fang struck down from the roof of her mouth. Her hands were bony fishtails radiating out from fleshy wrist stumps.

She wore a cobalt furisode, shades darker than her hair. Tied behind her back was a large ribbon. The collar of the furisode was a pale and dull-like periwinkle, as was the bow and hem of the dress. The splitting of the furisode revealed a checkered red pattern. The collar and bow of the furisode were lined with white lace, the hem of the furisode having an appearance akin to lace.

Mikotsuhime's obi was dark red, with a blood-red line in the middle of it, and a skeletal fish set in the front of the obi.

Before her uprising against the Blue Sea Kingdom and creation of the Sea of Death, Mikotsuhime's appearance was different, although possessed many similarities to her appearance after the war. Her furisode was similarly blue in hue to her sister's and her obi had a white fish as opposed to a bony fish. The servant fish on her head was also a normal fish. Her hands were fully fleshed and non-skeletal as well.

Personality[]

In the past, Mikotsuhime dearly loved her father and was quite close with her sister. She was happier than her post-war self, seen cheerful and smiling. After Uomihime was designated as heir over her, Mikotsuhime changed; rather than celebrating her sister, she grew envious of her sister's power and sought to claim it. After the war, Mikotsuhime greatly changed.

Mikotsuhime was often quiet, typically having her servant verbally communicate with others. Little remained of Mikotsuhime's personality prior to her war campaign with only vestigial traits persisting. She deeply hated her sister, her envy, rage, and malice towards her sister culminating into an explosive vendetta. Many years passed after their last battle, and Mikotsuhime maintained an obsession to destroy her sister and the rest of her denizens, willing to do anything in her power to destroy, such as corrupting a child. Her hatred and desire to end her sister's reign only grew during her imprisonment.

Even after losing her sanity and falling into madness, Mikotsuhime still dearly loved her father; in prison, she cried out for her father in pain. Though she loved him, Mikotsuhime felt deeply betrayed by his decision to appoint Uomihime as his successor, crying out to her father in butchered speech, asking him why he chose Uomihime over her. At the end when Mikotsuhime and the Sea of Death are defeated, she cries to be very tired and asks to be killed, claiming to finally understand something and apologizing beforehand. [1]

Background[]

WATGBS BR 3

Mikotsuhime and her sister Uomihime prior to war.

Her father was the Sea King, and she was a princess alongside her sister Uomihime during his reign. She was a kind child back then. [2]

After the Sea King disappeared into deep slumber, he designated Uomihime as his successor and ruling princess. However, Mikotsuhime could not bear her father's decision, and as a result, created the Sea of Death in order to seize the throne. A quarrel between the Sea of Death and Blue Sea Kingdom went on for years, with Mikotsuhime's opposition gaining favor over the Blue Sea Kingdom, until Meikai sacrificed his life to seal away the Sea of Death, effectively ending the war and imprisoning Mikotsuhime and her underlings. It was said an ambassador from the Sea of Death would appear and liberate it from Meikai's curse, although they did not appear for millennia.

Relationships[]

Relatives[]

Aounabara[]

Aounabara is Mikotsuhime's father. It is unknown how he feels about her, though Mikotsuhime holds bitter feelings toward him for seemingly abandoning her and favoring her sister over her. While Mikotsuhime is deeply wounded and betrayed by her father for his actions, she dearly loves him, calling out for him while she suffers during her sealing by Meikai.

Uomihime[]

Uomihime is Mikotsuhime's sister whom she despised greatly. Mikotsuhime possessed great hatred for her sister because she was chosen as ruler. Mikotsuhime, jealous and envious Uomihime would become ruler over her, created the Sea of Death in an attempt to wrest rule from her sister. However, she was defeated by Uomihime and her allies, Mikotsuhime and her faction being sealed away by the Great Sorcerer Meikai. While Mikotsuhime held nothing but contempt for her sister, it appeared the feeling is not mutual for Uomihime.

In order to keep Mikotsuhime at bay, Uomihime fell into constant slumber herself, as it influenced Mikotsuhime to do so as well.

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Mikotsuhime and Uomihime are very good friends. [3]

Totsusahime[]

Totsusahime is Mikotsuhime's cousin. Totsusahime has never met Mikotsuhime and does not seem to have known who she was either.

Artamos & Kigisu[]

They are both Mikotsuhime's uncles. Not much about their relationships is known.

Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea Cast[]

Syakesan[]

Syakesan was Mikotsuhime's underling. Sometime in the past, he joined the Sea of Death and became her ambassador. Being the Ambassador of the Sea of Death, Syakesan betrayed the Sea Kingdom, unsealing the Sea of Death for his princess by exploiting Wadanohara's magic. Tricking the Totsusa Kingdom, corrupting the Sacred Sword, and deceiving Uomihime were all done for Mikotsuhime. When she emerged to the surface after a very long time, Syakesan introduced Wadanohara to her as the "daughter of that cursed Meikai."

When killed by Samekichi with the Sacred Sword, Mikotsuhime followed Syakesan to death and died in a similar manner.

Old, Sheep, Squid, Stella, & Tsuribari[]

They were Mikotsuhime's underlings.

Unnamed Servant[]

Mikotsuhime had an unnamed servant fish residing on her head. The two appeared to be in good standing.

Wadanohara[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

In the Genderbend (AU), male Mikotsuhime and Wadanohara are acquaintances. Wadanohara would hold his hand and make a truce, stating, "It's not good to fight among brothers. Let's get along!," thus reconciling the Blue Sea and Sea of Death. [4]

Abilities[]

Natural Abilities[]

  • Nigh-Absolute Immortality - Like most non-human characters in the Deep-Sea Universe, Mikotsuhime could not die from natural causes such as aging or disease. [5]
  • Animal Transformation - Being a fish, she was able to switch between a humanoid and animal form.
  • Underwater Breathing - Being a fish, she could naturally breathe underwater.

Trivia[]

  • The kanji making up Mikotsuhime's name, "海骨," translates to "sea bones." [6]
  • Mikotsu is the only character to talk in butchered sentences continuously throughout the game, excluding Wadanohara's butchered speech for a short period of the game, using speech such as, "fAthEr... wHy...?"
  • In the Japanese version, she speaks with katakana instead of hiragana.
  • In the bonus room, there is a picture of Uomihime and Mikotsuhime together before she created the Sea of Death in rebellion. Mikotsuhime wears the same kimono in her normal design, though with a different color scheme; her left eye is also present instead of missing and bandaged. However, the bonus video "The Sealed Princess" shows her with her left eye missing but unbandaged.
