Lord Meikai...

— Tatsumiya, Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea

Tatsumiya (竜宮) is a humanoid oarfish from Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. She is one of the employees of Uomihime's court and serves as a foster mother to Wadanohara after the Great Sorcerer's disappearance. She was also one of Meikai's familiars.

Physical Description[]

Tatsumiya

Her white hair is cut into a short himecut, with red accents visible in the middle of her bangs and at the sides of her face. Two long red antennae extend from the top of her head. Her eyes are gold with black pupils. She also has red nails and raceless white skin.

Tatsumiya wears a white furisode accented with gray markings and red trim, the end of the long sleeves have red decoration on the tips, and are tied with a red obi. Her obijime is yellow and decorated with a white fish. She also wears a pink obiage.

In her past appearance, her hair in front was the same, but in the back it was much longer. She wore a dark red kimono with lighter red gradient sleeves, the neckpiece was a duller red, and an obi the exact same as her current one, except the fish on it had its eye open. In the manga, however, her furisode is decorated with a variety of flowers.

Deep-Sea Prisoner has said that she had designed Tatsumiya to be instantly recognizable as a messenger of Ryūgū-jō from the folktale Urashima Tarō. She was also designed to have the image of a widow. [1]

Personality[]

Tatsumiya is kind and caring, possessing a motherly personality. She takes care of Wadanohara in place of Meikai and cares for her as if she were her daughter. She worries over Wadanohara, being one of the few to recognize the witch's flaws and problems.

Tatsumiya's favorite color is ultramarine. Her favorite foods are sweet bean jelly, candy, and star candy. [2]

She is very loyal to Meikai, often referring to him as "Lord Meikai." Even after his death, she continued to serve him by caring for his daughter. Hidden from others, she still misses her master, wondering what truly happened to him after he sacrificed himself to seal the Sea of Death away.

Background[]

Tatsumiya was Meikai's familiar and the one Meikai had chosen to wield the Sacred Sword. She remained as his familiar up until his supposed death.

Moments prior to his death, Meikai entrusted the care of his daughter Wadanohara to Tatsumiya. Respecting her master's wishes, Tatsumiya filled the role of parent for Wadanohara in place of her absent father and mother. It was her who taught Wadanohara all of the magic she knows, Tatsumiya passing down to Wadanohara the magic her father used.

Wadanohara[]

絵:星の海にて1-5

Wadanohara is Tatsumiya's foster daughter, taking on the role of foster mother in the absence of the witch's parents. After Meikai's sacrifice, she presumably waited until Wadanohara hatched from her egg and raised her. Wadanohara views, treats, and loves Tatsumiya as if she was her real mother. Most of the magic Wadanohara knows was taught to her by Tatsumiya. She cares for and loves Wadanohara, carrying out the wishes of her master. She often frets over Wadanohara, worrying about her health and problems. In the past, she would be upset whenever Wadanohara stayed out too late. Furthermore, Tatsumiya was concerned that Wadanohara felt bound to the sea and wanted her to live a fulfilling life regardless of where she goes. Wadanohara's response that she is staying in the sea because she loves the sea greatly relieved her. Before Wadanohara sets out to fix the barrier, Tatsumiya gifted her a new set of clothes. In turn, Wadanohara loves Tatsumiya as her parent, worrying over her wellbeing and health. She expressed deep concern when she found out Tatsumiya had been poisoned.

Meikai[]

Meikai was Tatsumiya's former master. One day it fell upon Meikai to choose one of his familiars to wield the Sacred Sword, and Meikai chose Tatsumiya. This later resulted in feelings of betrayal from Meikai's other subordinate and Tatsumiya's colleague Old. After the Sea of Death's first invasion, Meikai entrusted Tatsumiya to take care of his daughter Wadanohara moments before his death. Tatsumiya greatly respects [3] and cares deeply for her former master, continuing to refer to herself as his familiar even after his death. She also continues to grieve for Meikai centuries after his death, often expressing sorrow when alone over his passing.

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Meikai is still alive and Tatsumiya works as a subordinate of his at a company. They often go out drinking on their way home from work together with Old. [4]

Old[]

Old was Tatsumiya's former fellow familiar under Meikai. One day, the responsibility of choosing the wielder of the Blue Sea Kingdom's Sacred Sword was given to Meikai by the Sea King, with the sorcerer being given the choice between his familiars Old and Tatsumiya. The moment Tatsumiya was chosen, her relationship with Old was permanently shattered, as he betrayed her and their master.

Confronting Tatsumiya

Upon being found in the field of battle after Old betrayed her and Meikai, Old viciously attacked her, for the grievances she had inadvertently caused him. Without any other choice, Tatsumiya was forced to retaliate, giving Old permanent scars around his eyes.

The two are now mortal enemies, willing to slay the other without any other thought. Old holds an unshakable vendetta against her and desires to watch her suffer for the suffering he was given at her hands. Inversely, Tatsumiya refuses to forgive him for his betrayal, holding no affection for him — partially due to his part in indirectly causing Meikai's disappearance.

Old later participated in the Sea of Death's attack on the Blue Sea. He confronted Tatsumiya, saying he was going to get revenge on her for scarring his face. When he went to attack Tatsumiya, he was stopped by Idate.

In Funamushi Private Deep-Sea Academy, Old and Tatsumiya are on good terms. They work together at the same company as subordinates of Meikai. The three of them often go out drinking on their way home from work. [4]

Helica & Pulmo[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Helica and Pulmo are Tatsumiya's fellow employees of Uomihime's court. They are on good terms. When Tatsumiya is poisoned, Helica visibly expresses concern. After the Sea of Death arose, Pulmo expressed worry for Tatsumiya by asking whether she was doing alright. Not much else is currently known about their relationships.

Syakesan[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Syakesan was Tatsumiya's fellow employee of Uomihime's court before the reveal of Syakesan's true nature. They were on seemingly good terms as Syakesan pretended to care for Tatsumiya. When the banquet in celebration of Wadanohara's success was held, Syakesan was named the coordinator, though a villager in the room said it was actually Tatsumiya who did most of the organization. Tatsumiya later proposed a toast to Syakesan, to which he reacted with surprise and sadness in the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea manga.

During a flashback sequence later in the Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea game, Wadanohara found Syakesan stuck in one of many chests. After he got out, he explained that Tatsumiya had asked him to sort out the empty chests. Tatsumiya later asked him whether he had completed his task, which he had not.

Later, when the Totsusa Kingdom invaded, Syakesan falsely offered to try and stop the soldiers approaching the Sea God Castle, which concerned and worried Tatsumiya. She accepted his offer with a grimace, showing she cared about his safety.

After the reveal of Syakesan's true nature, Syakesan became Tatsumiya's enemy. He later revealed that he had poisoned her before the events of the game because her intuition was too good.

Other Characters[]

Idate[]

This section is incomplete. You can help improve this article by expanding it.

Idate is Tatsumiya's acquaintance. He saved her from Old. A bonus scene in Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea implies she has a crush on him. It has been stated since Tatsumiya is very gentle, Idate would treat her in a gentlemanly manner. [5]
